Coverage Descriptions
The coverage descriptions given on this page are summaries containing basic information of different coverages found within various insurance policies offered by Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Nodaway County. These are not exhaustive or comprehensive descriptions. Please consult your individual policy documents for a complete description of your coverage types, levels, and policy conditions.
Home Insurance Coverages
Coverage A
Coverage A is the primary coverage for your home itself (walls, windows, roof, etc.) and any other permanent fixtures that are attached to the house. When looking at your declarations page, this will typically be the first number that you see. All other coverage amounts within your policy are based off of your Coverage A amount.
Coverage B
Coverage B protects any permanent structures on your property that are not attached to your house. This could be an unattached garage, shed, carport, fence, sidewalk, or other structures. The Coverage B limit is typically 10% of your Coverage A limit, but more coverage can be purchased for an additional amount of premium on some policies.
Coverage C
Coverage C protects your household contents. This includes a wide range of property like furniture, toys, electronics, clothing, jewelry, and other personal items. The limit of Coverage C can vary widely depending on the type of home insurance policy you have, so make sure to check your policy limits to see if you have enough coverage to replace your items in the event of a loss.
Coverage D
Coverage D takes effect whenever your residence becomes unfit to live in due to a covered peril. This coverage helps pay for additional living expenses to maintain your standard of living until you are able to return to your home or find a new place to call home. The limit for Coverage D is typically 10% of the limit of Coverage A.
Farm Insurance Coverages
Coverage E
Coverage E protects your farm buildings such as barns, machine sheds, outbuildings, farm dwellings, and portable buildings. These buildings are treated like your home would be on Coverage A of a home policy, and are insured to a specific coverage limit. However, unlike Coverage A, Coverage E has no impact on the limit values of any other farm coverage.
Coverage F
Coverage F protects scheduled farm personal property. In other words, it is protection for farm property that is specifically listed within your policy. Coverage F can apply to tractors, combines, implements, farm machinery, livestock, or other personal property that is used for farming operations. Coverage F is useful for those who may have specific machinery or equipment that they tend to keep for a long period of time.
Coverage G
Coverage G is referred to as a “blanket coverage” since it protects farm personal property that is not specifically scheduled in the policy. Coverage G allows for the insured to set a limit for certain categories of farm property, and any property within that category will be insured up to the coverage limit. Coverage G is useful for those who may buy and sell equipment or tools frequently, or for farmers such as cattle farmers who can have changes in herd size from year to year.
Liability Insurance Coverages
Coverage L
Coverage L protects you if you are found negligent due to actions that cause damage to another person’s personal property or cause bodily injury. Coverage is provided on a per occurrence basis, up to your total limit on the policy. Once the total limit for the year is reached, liability claims will no longer be paid for that year. Coverage L can be used to help cover legal fees and other associated costs of mounting a legal defense.
Coverage M
Coverage M provides coverage for medical payments to others if they are injured on your property, whether or not you are negligent. Coverage is provided for medical expenses that are incurred within three years of a covered bodily injury. Covered expenses can include reasonable costs for medical, surgical, x-ray, dental, ambulance, hospital, nursing, funeral, or other similar expenses.
